Optimal quality of SA images project

Project work: Monday, May 27, 15.00-17.00; Tuesday, May 28, 15.00-17.00; Wednesday, May 29, 08.00-12.00 and 13.00-17.00; Thursday, May 30, 08.00-12.00 on the top floor in Building 349, room 205.
Project presentation preparation is Friday, May 31, from 8:00-12:00, and the presentations are from 13:00-17:00.

Purpose

The quality of synthetic aperture images are dependent on the number of emissions, the number of receiving elements, and the probe used in combination with the beamforming performed. This project investigates the influence of the various compromises taken when making SA imaging and determines the optimal values of the various parameters.

Preparation

  1. Read the notes on SA imaging and the paper below.
  2. Simulate data for the GE 9L-D probe with single and multi elements emissions and generate SA images. Evaluate the quality using the FWHM and cystic contrast
  3. Design an experiment for acquiring data with the Verasonics scanner and use the GE 9L-D probe for acquiring a complete set of data for the experiments.
  4. Beamform the images for the wire phantom and find the FWHM and cystic contrast
  5. Investigate the influence of the number of transmissions, F# in receive, number of receiving elements and other factors influencing the image quality
  6. What are the optimal choices?

Papers and reading material:

Dissemination:

Make a 10 minutes presentation of your project, which will be discussed on Friday, May 31 from 13:00. There is 15-20 minutes available for each project group.
